Arnolt Center receives $100,000 Press Forward grant

The Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism is one of 205 small, local news outlets across the country that are receiving a share of $20 million thanks to funding from Press Forward.

“Local news is not gone. It’s just changing,” Press Forward Director Dale Anglin said. “These grantees represent proof that leaders of all ages are stepping up to create a new story for local news.”

Press Forward is a nationwide movement to strengthen communities by reinvigorating local news. It rewards grants to independent, non-partisan news outlets that produce the everyday stories people need to make decisions about their daily lives.

“I am thrilled and honored that the Press Forward funders decided to award the Arnolt Center with this significant grant in its inaugural funding campaign,” said Kathleen Johnston, Arnolt Center founding director.

The Arnolt Center will receive $100,000 in support of its multimedia investigative reporting on issues of importance to the residents of Indiana. This funding will help the center continue to grow and offer opportunities to Media School students.

“In the five years our working newsroom has been in operation, students working with our professional media partners have produced nearly 50 hard-hitting state and national investigative stories that affect Hoosiers,” Johnston said. “We have grown from 12 students our first year of operation to 48 this semester and this money will ensure the work will continue.”

The Arnolt Center is among three grantees located in Indiana. The other Indiana recipients include Indiana Public Broadcasting News in Indianapolis and Our Times News in Evansville. Learn more at pressforward.news.
